I finally decided to publish a blog. the title, of course, is inspired by the appearance of cormac mccarthy on the oprah winfrey show on june 5, 2007. the main purpose of this blog will be to write about what I'm currently reading, watching, writing. as someone who pays her house note as a journalist, blogging (well, really, spending more time on the computer) goes against every blood cell in my body, but I've ultimately come to the conclusion that I don't get to write enough about what I read and/or see (books, magazines, cereal boxes, DVD wrappers, the cnn newstrail, other blogs). hopefully this will inspire you (and me) to read - and think about what we read - even more.
Since 2000, I've made my living as a freelance journalist for such publications as the Commercial Appeal newspaper, Wax Poetics, MOJO, Spin, Stop Smiling, Slate, Garden and Gun, Paste Magazine, the Memphis Flyer, Memphis Business Journal, the Oxford American, and more. in 2003, my first book, Waking Up in Memphis, was published by Sanctuary Press (UK). I also contributed essays and/or chapters to Where the Locals Eat, Bill Wyman's Rolling with the Stones, Spin's Underground USA, and Jeff Buckley: A Wished For Song.
